In 1808 Henry
Tranter from Hampton-in-Arden
married Martha Smith from Barston and in the
following twenty years they had eight children. One hundred and ninety three
years later a small group of descendants of two of these children - John and
his younger brother, Daniel - set themselves the task of constructing this web
site. In so doing, it is our aim to
provide a vehicle for the exchange of information concerning our Tranter family
and also to introduce others to the social history of a typical Victorian rural
family living on the doorstep of an important Victorian city. Even though Barston
is only minutes from the boundary of Birmingham
it still retains the charm and tranquillity of a small English village.
In celebration
of the two hundredth anniversary of their marriage this web site has been
re-launched; and in doing so, we have taken the opportunity to add contributions made by numerous other Tranter
cousins who have found us since the initial launch.
